What is Special Education?
Special education is education for children who have mental and physical disabilities. Some people call this mental retardation.
Even though some children with mental and physical disabilities are eligible for standard schools, most of these children have special needs that standard school teachers are not trained to address. For example, these students may need to learn how to walk, how to ask for food, or say their name.
Special education teachers try to understand what life skills can help improve a mentally challenged child’s life. Then teachers create lessons to help children learn these skills in creative ways. Some teachers use computer-aided instruction as part of their teaching method.
